The Gospel Scene Behind the Icon

The Sermon on the Mount is recorded in Matthew chapters 5–7. It includes Christ’s teaching on the Beatitudes, prayer, mercy and the life of His followers. In the image, the listeners gather across a rocky landscape and turn toward Jesus as He teaches. The scene offers a visual reminder to listen to the Gospel and return to its teaching in daily life.

Christ’s red garment and dark blue mantle stand out against the gentle sky tones. A narrow light border frames the scene, while the reddish wooden edge complements the artwork. For the opening of the Gospel passage, read Matthew 5 on the Orthodox Church in America website.

Plan Your Baptism Keepsake Presentation

Begin with the icon’s measurements when selecting a pouch, box or wrapping. Leave enough room for the wooden thickness, and avoid tight fastenings across the artwork. Prepare one sample arrangement before assembling the rest so you can check the fit of your chosen packaging and any thank-you card.

Keep ribbons and loose fabric away from candle flames, and display the icons securely. If your celebration has a fixed date, contact us by email before ordering. Browse more Baptism Ideas, or view the original Jesus Sermon on the Mount square mounted icon to see the icon on its own.

Care for Your Wooden Icon

Keep the icon indoors in a dry location. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, and avoid soaking the wood or applying abrasive cleaners. Protect the artwork from direct heat, candle flames and prolonged strong sunlight. Use a stable surface or a suitable support when displaying it upright.
