Prophet Elijah the Tishbite Wooden Mounted Icon

Prophet Elijah the Tishbite Wooden Mounted Icon

This wooden mounted icon of Prophet Elijah brings a beloved image of the Holy Prophet into your home prayer corner. Hand-finished in Brooklyn, New York, it features traditional Byzantine-style artwork mounted on solid wood using the decoupage technique. A magnet on the back offers another simple way to display this Orthodox Christian icon.

The artwork depicts Elijah seated among rugged rocks beside a dark cave, looking toward a raven above him. His blue robe, deep red mantle, white hair, and gold-colored halo stand out against the rocky landscape. The Greek inscription identifies him as the Prophet Elijah: Προφήτης Ηλίας. This scene recalls God’s care for the prophet in the wilderness and invites quiet reflection on trust, perseverance, and prayer.

About the Holy Prophet Elijah

Prophet Elijah the Tishbite is honored in the Orthodox Church for his steadfast devotion to God and his call to faithfulness. The Old Testament recounts how ravens brought him food during a time of drought. Elijah later appeared with Moses beside Christ at the Transfiguration. His life continues to encourage Christians to seek God through prayer and remain faithful in difficult circumstances.

The Orthodox Church commemorates him on July 20. To learn more, read the Orthodox Church in America’s account of the Holy Prophet Elijah. Families following different Church calendars should check their parish calendar for the corresponding civil date.

A Thoughtful Orthodox Name Day Gift

A Prophet Elijah icon is a meaningful gift for someone named Elias, Ilias, Elijah, or another form of the name. It can mark a name day, birthday, baptism, chrismation, or housewarming, especially when the recipient has a personal devotion to this prophet. Pair it with a handwritten message to make the gift more personal.

The wilderness scene also makes this piece a thoughtful choice for someone who appreciates traditional Orthodox iconography. Its quiet composition offers a visual reminder of prayer and reliance on God during the ordinary moments of daily life.

Displaying and Caring for Your Wooden Icon

Place the icon in a clean, respectful location where it can be seen during prayer. The magnetic backing can be used on a compatible metal surface, as shown in the product photographs. Check that it holds securely before leaving the icon in place, and keep it away from areas exposed to heat, steam, or splashing water.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid soaking the wood, using abrasive cleaners, or placing the icon in prolonged direct sunlight. Gentle handling helps preserve both the mounted image and the hand-finished surface over time.
